Visit Rainbow Springs State Park & Float Down the River
Rainbow Springs’ crystal clear waters look like something out of a fairy tale. It’s hard to believe they’re right in your backyard when you live in Citrus Springs! There are so many different activities you can do in this gorgeous state park. One of the most popular ways to see it is by floating down the Rainbow River in an innertube from KP Hole Park. You can also canoe or kayak down the river and even swim in the cool, turquoise blue waters of the headsprings! In the buoyed swimming area, you can snorkel and spot fish and turtles in the waters below. You can enjoy the parts of the park on land just as much as well! Hike some of the nature trails, go geocaching, have a picnic or look for wildlife. There’s something for everyone here!
Go Scalloping in Crystal River
This is the perfect activity for the adventurous Floridian in the summertime! Scallop season is from July to September and harvesting bay scallops in Crystal River is among the favorite things to do in Citrus Springs for locals and visitors alike. If you don’t have your own boat and aren’t experienced in harvesting scallops, you can go on a scalloping charter! Florida Fishing Adventures is a great option for these charters. You’ll get snorkeling gear and bags for harvesting so you can swim down to the bottom and pick up the scallops you see there. They even have a service where they will clean your scallops on site so they are ready to be used in fresh, delicious dishes!

Bike the Withlacoochee State Trail
If you’re looking for year-round things to do in Citrus Springs, why not try biking? The 46-mile long paved Withlacoochee State Trail is the perfect spot for it. It’s an old rail trail that has been paved to make it one of the longest paved rail-trails in the state. The terrain is mostly flat and is accessible at many different points between Citrus Springs and Dade City.
Pick Your Own Fresh Fruit at Hatfield’s Orchard & U-Pick
Just a quick 25-minute drive from our Citrus Springs communities, Hatfield’s Orchard & U-Pick in Crystal River is the perfect place for a fun and relaxing day outdoors. This family-owned farm and tree nursery offers a true farm-to-table experience where you can pick your own seasonal fruit—fresh from the orchard. From blueberries and peaches (April–June) to oranges, grapefruit, and more (November–January), there’s always something in season. The farm also features muscadine grapes, mulberries, elderberries, and a growing nursery with fruit trees for sale. Hatfield’s easily makes our list of favorite things to do near Citrus Springs—it’s a wholesome, family-friendly outing that everyone can enjoy. Conveniently located just off US Highway 19/98 on N. Virginia Road, it’s a quick and worthwhile day trip from home, just be sure to check their Facebook or call ahead for current picking availability. Try Wines at Copp Winery & Brewery
After a day of fruit picking at Hatfield’s Orchard, head just down the road to COPP Brewery and Winery on Gulf to Lake Highway. A long-time local favorite, COPP has been serving up craft beer and wine in Crystal River since 2006, expanding into their spacious new location in 2022. Enjoy freshly smoked meats, house-made sauces, and wood-fired dishes—all in a charming setting that blends historic European style with old Florida charm. With plenty of outdoor seating, it’s the perfect spot to relax with friends, enjoy the Florida sunshine, and sample a flight of locally made brews or wines. Visit the Underwater Observatory at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park
Just about a 30-minute drive from our Citrus Springs communities, Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park is a must-visit for nature lovers and families alike. Located off U.S. 19 in Homosassa, this unique state park is home to a variety of native Florida wildlife, including manatees, black bears, panthers, and even a famous hippo named Lu! Visitors can enjoy walking trails, wildlife encounters, and an underwater observatory where you can view manatees in their natural spring habitat.
